WHO ARE WE?
Dell Children’s is the only Pediatric Level I Trauma Center in Central Texas and one of only five in all of Texas. It is one of an elite group of children’s hospitals that offer the highest level of care available to children who have been victims of trauma. Learn more about the Level I difference and what it means for the comprehensive care of children in our area. Dell Children’s also offers the only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Central Texas.
One of the world’s leading pediatric heart surgeons, Charles Fraser, Jr., M.D., is now head of faculty of the Dell Medical School at UT Austin as professor in the Departments of Surgery and Perioperative Care and Pediatrics. Fraser plays a leading role in building the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, a focused pediatric and congenital heart program that leverages the power of the partnership between Dell Medical School, the greater University of Texas community, and Dell Children’s, part of Ascension.
A primary focus of the hospital is the application of innovative medical processes and products that deliver person-centered care “at the bedside.” Ascension Seton physicians, nurses and other professionals will build upon a history of medical research with their UT Austin counterparts. In addition to working with Dell Medical School, Ascension Seton teams will collaborate with many of UT Austin’s colleges and departments, such as Nursing, Pharmacy and Engineering. Physicians who want to practice the most advanced medicine will be drawn to Central Texas to care for patients, alleviating a regional shortage of doctors.
Ascension was founded on November 1st 1999 by the union of the Daughters of Charity National Health System, that was based in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Sisters of St. Joseph Health System, that was based in Nazareth (Kalamazoo), Michigan.
